Final preparations for sailors and organisers at 2010 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championships

Craig Heydon, Tuesday, 5 January 2010

Largs Bay Sailing Club is a hive of activity with final preparations taking place for the 2010 OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Championships with the regatta beginning of January 6.

165 boats will take part in the leading youth regatta in the region, with sailors competing in 420, 29er, Hobie 16, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial and Techno 293 classes.

The Laser 4.7 class is the biggest fleet with 45 entries across boys and girls, closely followed by the Laser Radial with 43 competitors.

The regatta will see 42 420s take to the water, with 19 29ers, five Hobie 16s and 12 Techno 293s also competing.

In a major addition to the already popular regatta the event will welcome youth sailors from across Oceania as they battle for positions at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. The event will also be the Techno 293 Oceania Championships.

For Australian sailors the regatta will decide positions for the OAMPS Insurance Brokers Australian Youth Sailing Team that will compete at the 2010 Volvo ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Turkey.

Racing begins at Largs Bay on Thursday January 7 and concludes on Sunday January 10.
