by Stacey French
James Jackson an Optimist sailor from Mornington Yacht Club, has won the Gill prize pack valued at over $350 just by entering the New South Wales Youth Championships before August 31.
James was thrilled to win the prize pack and is looking forward to sailing in the 2016 NSW Youth Championships in October at George’s River Sailing Club.
“The NSW Youth Champs will be good fun and I look forward to being able to learn more about sailing,” James said. “I like sailing because I get to have fun with my friends and really enjoy training after school, especially in the Winter.”
James will now be the proud owner of a new Gill sailing kit which includes a wetsuit, booties, gloves and a hat. There will be a Gill merchandise stand at this year’s event so be sure to check out their products online and start your wish list now.
With one month until the Championships, the Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial classes have received the most entries to date with an exceptionally high number of entries also being received for all other classes.
With over 100 entries received already, New South Wales Regional Manager, Declan Brennan, expects that this year’s event will attract more competitors than previous years.
“There are a number of contributing factors to why this event continues to attract more competitors each year and that has a lot to do with event coordination, the venue, sponsors and volunteers who all collaborate to deliver a youth sailing event of the highest quality.” Declan said.
“It is encouraging to see such high numbers in the Laser classes and I think on the back of the success of our Australian Olympic Sailors youth sailors can not only see a pathway but they can see how fun sailing is from an entry level to elite level.”
